Željeznice Republike Srpske union threatens strike over unpaid wages

The Independent Transport and Traffic Union of Željeznice Republike Srpske (ŽRS) has threatened to suspend operations starting September 1 if salary payments for July 2026 are not resolved. The union claims that the Government of Republika Srpska has failed to settle a required grant to the company, jeopardizing the timely payment of wages for approximately 1,630 employees.

Union president Dragan Peulić stated that the union has sent an urgent inquiry to the General Director of ŽRS and the relevant ministry. The union is seeking clarity on when salaries will be paid, whether the government has secured the grant funds, and why the payment has been delayed. Additionally, workers are concerned that delays in salary payments may compromise their health insurance coverage.

Peulić emphasized that the current instability makes it impossible to attract new staff or retain existing skilled personnel, noting that employees responsible for railway safety deserve financial and social security.
