elka-Holzwerke invests millions to modernize Morbach site

elka-Holzwerke is undertaking its largest investment in its 120-year history to modernize its production site in Morbach. The project, involving a high double-digit million euro investment that exceeds the company's annual turnover, aims to overhaul particle board production and energy infrastructure by 2028.

Key components of the modernization include a central biomass energy plant with nearly 20 megawatts of thermal capacity, a low-temperature dryer, closed storage for sawdust and wood chips, and a new forming and pressing line approximately 165 meters long. Completed stages of the project already include a modern cutting center, new knife ring refiner, and updated sieving and gluing processes.

Managing partner Karl-Robert Kuntz stated the investment was necessary because existing facilities no longer offered long-term economic viability. The project was driven by four decisive factors: technology, permits, financing, and market conditions.
