Netflix releases Lizzie Borden true crime series starring Ella Beatty
Netflix has released the fourth installment of the Monster anthology series, titled ‘Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story’. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the eight-episode season focuses on the 1892 axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden in Fall River, Massachusetts.
The series stars Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, the daughter of the victims who was famously acquitted of the crimes in 1893. Beatty, the daughter of Hollywood actors Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, portrays the character through themes of Victorian societal restrictions and repressed emotions. The production has drawn attention for its creative liberties, including dramatized romantic subplots and connections to other historical figures, which some critics note deviate from the documented historical record.
While the real case remains one of America’s most famous unsolved mysteries, the series explores the psychological motivations and social pressures of the era. The show marks the first time the anthology has centered on a female protagonist, following previous seasons focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, the Menendez brothers, and Ed Gein.
