Ellen Goldfarb harvests final blooms from New Jersey cutting garden

New Jersey gardener and designer Ellen Goldfarb has completed her final harvest of the season from her cutting garden ahead of an expected frost. The garden, currently in its third year, consists of two raised beds constructed from railroad ties that measure approximately 4 feet wide and between 8 and 10 feet long.

Following the removal of a large tree on a neighboring property, the garden now benefits from full southern exposure. In addition to the cutting beds, the garden includes a bean tunnel, 21 tomato plants, and a fig tree.

To preserve the season's growth before the temperature drop, Goldfarb harvested various varieties, including dahlias such as ‘Shaggy Chic’, ‘Aurora Mix’ zinnias, and roses including ‘Easy Does It’ and ‘Julia Child’. Other harvested plants included coneflowers, specifically ‘Pica Bella’ and ‘SunSeekers Rainbow’, as well as nasturtiums.
