Ellen Johnson Sirleaf named a Forbes Africa icon

Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been selected as one of 15 influential personalities in the 15th-anniversary edition of Forbes Africa magazine. The publication recognizes individuals whose contributions in sectors such as politics, business, and culture have shaped the continent’s development and global influence over the last 15 years.

Sirleaf, recognized as Africa’s first democratically elected female head of state, is honored for her political leadership and her work in advancing women’s leadership. The magazine’s selection process focused on enduring influence and the ability to inspire future generations rather than solely on wealth or fame.

Other featured individuals include Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu, South African comedian Trevor Noah, Beninese singer-songwriter Angélique Kidjo, Tanzanian Nobel laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong’o, and Nigerian musician Burna Boy.
