Liberia President Boakai replaces Justice Minister and Solicitor General

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has announced a significant shake-up within the Liberian government, most notably replacing the Minister of Justice and the Solicitor General. Cllr. Betty M. Lamin-Blamo has been appointed as the new Minister of Justice, succeeding Oswald Tweh, while Cllr. Abrahim Boimah Sillah, Sr. takes over as Solicitor General from Augustine Fayiah. The outgoing officials are slated for reassignment to other positions within the government.

The leadership changes at the Ministry of Justice occur following a period of intense narcotics-trafficking investigations in Liberia. Outgoing Minister Tweh had overseen several major cocaine seizures, though his tenure faced scrutiny amid widening investigations into high-profile corruption and drug scandals.

In addition to the justice department, the President made several other appointments, including Angel M. Morris as Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and Alex Chersia Grant as Commissioner of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission. The administration stated these moves aim to strengthen government institutions and improve public service delivery.

Separately, former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visited the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) headquarters in Monrovia. During her visit, she commended EPA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel K. Urey Yarkpawolo for his leadership and his decision to remain in Liberia to serve the country despite having the qualifications to pursue high-level opportunities abroad.
