Ellie Goulding apologizes for wearing controversial pink diamonds
British singer Ellie Goulding has issued a public apology after facing backlash for wearing pink diamonds linked to a controversial mining operation in Australia. The singer attended a London flagship store launch for the luxury jewellery brand Boodles in early October 2026, where she wore a necklace and earrings valued at approximately £500,000.
The diamonds were sourced from the Argyle mine in Western Australia, which was operated by Rio Tinto before closing in 2020. The mine has been a subject of long-standing criticism from Indigenous communities regarding environmental damage and the management of ancestral lands.
Goulding, who serves as a UN Environment Programme goodwill ambassador and has received an MBE for services to biodiversity, stated she was unaware of the controversy surrounding the stones. She expressed regret, noting that she ‘fell short’ of her own values and pledged that she would not wear diamonds originating from the Argyle mine again.
