Elliniko Metro president resigns amid Kypseli building cracks

Christos Karadimas has resigned as president of Elliniko Metro, citing personal reasons, following significant structural damage to residential buildings in the Kypseli district of Athens. Spyridon Chrysanthopoulos has been appointed as the interim president.

The resignation follows reports of cracks and structural issues in at least 20 apartment buildings caused by ongoing metro construction. Residents and local initiatives have expressed growing alarm, noting that some buildings have experienced subsidences of up to 18 millimeters. While authorities have provided assurances regarding the structural integrity of the buildings, residents and representatives from the Kypseli Residents' Initiative have criticized the data provided by Elliniko Metro as incomplete and contradictory.

Local representatives have presented reports from Polytechnic professors emphasizing the urgent need for immediate static studies and repairs. Residents are demanding transparent technical assessments and independent evaluations, with many threatening legal action against the involved companies and authorities due to a perceived lack of cooperation and clarity regarding building safety.
