Elliot Tuttle's 'Blue Film' Wins Best Picture at Mallorca Film Fest After Festival Rejections

Director Elliot Tuttle's gay drama "Blue Film" has become one of the season's most controversial titles, depicting a young webcam model who reunites with a former teacher accused of sexual assault. The film explores themes of pedophilia and the online economy of desire without casting its characters as outright monsters.

Despite its provocative subject matter, "Blue Film" was turned down by ten major festivals, including Sundance and South by Southwest, which Tuttle attributes to festivals' risk‑averse stance and corporate sponsorship pressures. The Edinburgh International Film Festival was the first to screen the movie, where it received strong reviews.

The film later premiered on the streaming platform Filmin as part of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest, where it was awarded Best Picture in the festival's Tren section, marking a notable turnaround after its earlier rejections.
