ELME Chania demands withdrawal of new school excursion regulations
The ELME Chania teachers' union is calling for the immediate withdrawal of a new ministerial decision regarding school excursions and educational visits for public and private secondary education students.
The union argues that the new framework, established by Ministerial Decision 109113/ΓΔ1, introduces excessive bureaucracy and shifts additional responsibilities onto educators, making the organization of such activities practically impossible. Key requirements include the formation of a three-member committee to oversee all transport-related activities and rigorous verification of travel agencies through the gov.gr portal, including tax and insurance compliance.
In addition to demanding the repeal of the decision, ELME Chania is calling for state funding for school trips, legal protection for teachers, and compensation for accompanying educators. The union has also advised teaching associations to refrain from scheduling visits that require bus transportation under the current regulations.
