Birmingham European Athletics Championships: Battocletti wins 5,000m gold
The 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham have seen significant performances from Italian athletes. Nadia Battocletti secured gold in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:37.84, followed by teammate Micol Majori, who earned the bronze medal.
In the 800 meters, Eloisa Coiro set a new Italian record with a time of 1:57.56, breaking a 46-year-old record previously held by Gabriella Dorio. Additionally, three Italian women—Dalia Kaddari, Vittoria Fontana, and Elena Cambiolo—have qualified for the 200 meters semifinals.
However, the competition brought setbacks for some, including Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs. Jacobs suffered a suspected muscle injury in his left thigh during the 100 meters final, forcing him to withdraw from the 4x100 meter relay. The event also featured various other results, including high jump qualifications and upcoming finals in the 400m hurdles and triple jump.
