Elon Musk accuses Mukesh Ambani of blocking Starlink in India

Elon Musk has intensified a public dispute with Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, accusing him of using political influence to block the entry of Starlink into the Indian telecommunications market. Musk has sarcastically referred to Ambani as ‘Prime Minister Ambani’ and the ‘real boss of India,’ alleging that Reliance Industries seeks to maintain a ‘monopolistic exploitation’ of the Indian people.

Musk further escalated the conflict by sharing reports alleging financial and campaign links between Reliance-associated entities and the ruling BJP. He argued that Starlink’s presence would benefit Indian consumers by providing affordable internet to underserved rural areas, which could improve educational opportunities and support small businesses.

The Indian government has rejected these allegations, describing them as ‘baseless and misconceived.’ Telecommunications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that India does not permit monopolies and maintained that the regulatory and security clearance processes are fair and non-discriminatory. The Ministry of Communications clarified that Starlink, Reliance Jio, and OneWeb are all at a similar stage in the mandatory security evaluation and spectrum allocation process.
