Elon Musk admits he was wrong about Anthropic's AI leadership
Elon Musk has publicly acknowledged that he was “clearly wrong” regarding the potential of the AI startup Anthropic, previously dismissing the company as a serious competitor in the artificial intelligence race. Musk has since praised Anthropic’s Mythos and Fable models, describing the company as the “obvious leader in AI.”
This shift in stance carries implications for major technology players, particularly Amazon. Amazon has made significant financial commitments to Anthropic, with total investments estimated between $10 billion and $13 billion. In return, Anthropic has committed to using Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary cloud provider, with projected spending expected to exceed $100 billion over the coming years.
Furthermore, Musk has pledged to ensure Anthropic receives fair access to infrastructure, a notable move given his control over compute resources through xAI. For Amazon, the relationship provides a massive revenue driver for its AWS division and a substantial equity stake that could see significant value if Anthropic pursues a public offering.
