Elon Musk sparks security debate over Grok Bot shopping feature

Elon Musk has sparked debate regarding AI security after suggesting that users can upload photos of their credit cards to the Grok Bot to facilitate online shopping. While Musk demonstrated the bot's ability to purchase LEGO Star Wars kits, the demonstration raised significant privacy concerns.

Critics and community notes pointed out that xAI's own terms warn users against including personal information in prompts, noting that data and credentials may be stored in a cloud environment. Furthermore, Musk's demonstration included a screenshot that inadvertently revealed sensitive details, such as an order number, billing and shipping addresses, and the last four digits of his credit card.

Following the post, some users attempted to interact with LEGO's customer service chatbot using the leaked information to either cancel or modify the order. While Musk claimed the order was not successfully canceled, the incident has highlighted the potential risks of using AI agents for financial transactions and the importance of screenshot security.
