Elon Musk announces Hyperloop precursor for Texas cities

Elon Musk has announced that The Boring Company is working on a “simple precursor to the Hyperloop” intended to connect Austin and San Antonio, Texas. The proposed project aims to reduce the travel time between the two major cities to less than 30 minutes.

While The Boring Company expressed that it would be “honored to build this massive infrastructure project,” neither Musk nor the company has confirmed a formal agreement with local or state authorities to proceed. The specific technology to be used remains unconfirmed, though the original Hyperloop concept involves passenger or cargo capsules traveling at high speeds through low-pressure tubes to minimize air resistance.

The Boring Company currently operates a tunnel transportation network in Las Vegas that utilizes surface vehicles, which differs from the high-speed vacuum tube concept originally envisioned for the Hyperloop.
