Elon Musk announces massive Terafab chip factory in Texas

Elon Musk has announced plans for Terafab, a massive semiconductor fabrication facility to be located in Grimes County, Texas. The project aims to address a projected shortage in global compute capacity, as SpaceX and Tesla are expected to require more than one terawatt of processing power for future technologies.

The facility is designed as a vertically integrated factory that will house logic, memory, and advanced packaging processes under one roof. If completed, the building is expected to be the largest in the world, significantly exceeding the size of the current record holder, the New Century Global Center in China.

The first phase of the project involves a capital investment of over $16.8 billion and is projected to create approximately 3,000 new jobs. The facility will produce chips optimized for various applications, including Tesla’s Optimus robots, self-driving Cybercabs, and data centers for SpaceX.
