Elon Musk announces multi-model integration for Grok Bot

Elon Musk has announced a significant shift for Grok Bot, the AI agent developed by his company xAI. Moving away from a closed ecosystem, the bot will transition to a task-oriented multi-model architecture. This means Grok Bot will automatically select the most effective backend model to complete specific user tasks, rather than relying solely on proprietary xAI models.

Musk stated that the system will utilize leading third-party APIs, including Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 for text, Midjourney for image generation, and Suno for musical tasks. The goal is to provide the “best result” for any given prompt by routing simple questions to smaller, faster models and complex queries to larger, more capable ones.

Grok Bot is positioned as a “resident AI colleague” rather than a simple chatbot. It is designed to operate on a cloud-based computer with its own browser, file system, and terminal, allowing it to perform multi-step tasks autonomously. Users can interact with it via text or voice, and the bot can continue working on scheduled tasks even if the user's device is turned off.
