Elon Musk pledges SpaceX shares to all American children
Elon Musk has announced a plan to gift one share of SpaceX to every child in the United States in 2027. Based on current market valuations and U.S. Census Bureau estimates of approximately 72 to 73 million minors, the total value of the distribution is estimated to be between $10.5 billion and $11 billion.
President Donald Trump has welcomed the initiative, noting that the shares would be directed into ‘Trump Accounts’, tax-advantaged investment vehicles for American children. These accounts, which launched in July 2025 with a $1,000 government seed deposit for eligible newborns, were previously restricted to low-cost index funds until recent Treasury Department regulatory changes allowed for corporate stock donations.
Separately, Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to investigate a potential merger between the two companies. This move follows strong quarterly performance from SpaceX, which reported a 161% revenue increase, driven largely by high demand for AI computing infrastructure. Analysts suggest a merger could significantly impact Musk’s net worth and the strategic integration of SpaceX’s connectivity with Tesla’s robotics and energy sectors.
