Elon Musk: AI and robotics are the only solution to U.S. debt
Elon Musk has stated that artificial intelligence and robotics are the only viable solutions to address the United States' massive national debt. In a recent interview with biographer Walter Isaacson for the podcast ‘The Builders’, Musk argued that traditional methods of cutting government spending are insufficient because there is a lack of political will across the executive, legislative, and judicial branches to reduce expenditures.
Musk reflected on his time leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during the Trump administration, admitting that his four-month involvement caused him to lose focus on his primary business interests in AI. He suggested he should have remained in a background role for only one or two months to avoid being distracted from his companies.
While Musk views AI as a tool for economic prosperity, he also noted the emerging challenges of the technology, including its impact on the labor market. Reports indicate that in both the U.S. and China, AI development is already creating difficulties for university graduates and mid-career white-collar professionals seeking employment.
