Elon Musk donates $5 million to Greg Abbott campaign

Elon Musk has contributed $5 million to Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s re-election campaign for the 2026 Texas gubernatorial race. This donation follows a previous $500,000 contribution from Musk during the same electoral cycle. Abbott’s campaign reported a total of $26 million in fundraising for the 30-day period ending October 24, with at least $6 million coming from the technology and data center sectors.

Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa, a civil rights attorney and state representative, has criticized the influence of campaign contributions and the lack of transparency regarding data centers. During a campaign stop in El Paso, Hinojosa proposed a “corruption tax refund” to provide $1,500 to every Texas household, aiming to redirect state resources toward public education. While Hinojosa raised $17.5 million, including support from national Democratic groups and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, she remains significantly behind Abbott in total funds.
