Elon Musk identifies AI and robotics as solutions to US debt
Elon Musk has stated that artificial intelligence and robotics are the only viable ways to address the United States' national debt, which reached approximately $40.4 trillion in mid-October. During a podcast discussion with biographer Walter Isaacson, Musk expressed skepticism regarding fiscal austerity as a primary solution, noting that attempts to save the country out of its debt crisis are unlikely to succeed.
Musk's shift in perspective follows his involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he worked to reduce redundant federal spending. He suggested that the rapid advancement of technology will eventually lead to an era of abundance where traditional currency may become irrelevant due to massive productivity gains.
In a separate context regarding future economic structures, Musk predicted that advancements in robotics and AI could make traditional retirement savings unnecessary by fundamentally changing how economic value is measured. He also announced a plan to gift SpaceX shares to every child in the United States next year, a move valued at over $10 billion.
