Elon Musk predicts AI-driven universal high income as robots create abundance

Elon Musk told XPRIZE founder Peter Diamandis at the Abundance Summit that advances in artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics will soon produce so many goods and services that human demand will hit a ceiling and people will run out of work. He suggested that governments may need to adopt a “universal high‑income” system, simply issuing money to individuals because AI‑generated output will far outpace the growth of the money supply.

Musk explained that this surge in production would generate deflationary pressure rather than inflation, as the rate of growth of goods and services would exceed that of money. The remarks frame a future of economic abundance driven by AI, contrasting with traditional concerns about job displacement.

The comments were made during a conversation at the Abundance Summit and reflect Musk’s view that AI and robots could fundamentally reshape the labor market and fiscal policy.
