Elon Musk predicts rise of humanoid robots and AI dominance

Elon Musk has shared several predictions regarding the future of artificial intelligence and robotics. During a G20 conference, Musk forecasted that by 2036, there will be over one billion humanoid robots in operation. He suggested that the productivity of these robots could eventually exceed that of the entire human race, driven by a cycle where robots assist in manufacturing more robots.

Musk also addressed the capabilities of AI in digital tasks, predicting that by the end of 2027, AI will surpass humans in most digital functions, including coding and office work. He compared the potential of AI software to the chess engine Stockfish, noting that AI is rapidly approaching a level of proficiency where it can outperform the world's best human players.

This technological outlook sparked a debate with the online chess platform Chess.com. Musk argued that chess will eventually be ‘solved’ by AI, much like checkers, because while the number of possible games is vast, the number of valid positions is manageable for superintelligence. Chess.com countered by highlighting the astronomical scale of possible game variations, which they claim exceeds the number of atoms in the observable universe.
