Elon Musk pushes Starlink entry into Turkey despite security concerns

SpaceX founder Elon Musk is urging Turkish authorities to grant a licence for the Starlink satellite‑internet service. In 2023 the company submitted an application to Turkey’s telecommunications regulator (BTK), which is still under review. Ankara has said the proposal raises security issues and has not issued the required visa for the licence, keeping the service out of the country.

Musk’s team continues to meet Turkish officials, both in person and via online talks, to argue for inclusion of Turkey in Starlink’s coverage. The issue is being discussed alongside broader US‑Turkey talks at the NATO summit, where President Donald Trump and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet on defence, transport, trade and energy cooperation, including the possible lifting of defence embargoes on Turkey.
