Elon Musk rejects far‑right label in Economist interview

In an exclusive interview with British The Economist editor Zani Minton Bedous, Elon Musk repudiated the characterization of his views as “extreme right.” He argued that the principles he supports – safe borders, safe cities and reasonable spending – are ordinary positions, not radical ones. Musk stated, “What you falsely call extreme right is actually normal people,” and said he backs “normal people” who want such policies.

He also criticized migration policies that he says break laws or increase crime, and warned against left‑wing political manipulation, claiming the left now portrays mainstream ideas as extremist. Musk cited examples from former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, noting how their rhetoric is today labeled “Trumpism.” The interview emphasized his stance against mislabeling and his belief that the current political climate has been ideologically skewed.
