Elon Musk threatens legal action over new life documentary
Elon Musk’s legal team has threatened action against the creators of ‘Musk’, a four-hour documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim and standing ovations, traces Musk’s life from his early days in Silicon Valley to his status as a global billionaire.
Musk’s attorney, Alex Spiro, issued a formal notice to Jigsaw Productions, HBO, Bleecker Street, and Universal, alleging the film is defamatory. Spiro claims the project was built around a “predetermined conclusion” and criticized Gibney for refusing to allow Musk or his associates to fact-check the content. The legal warning specifically targets a sequence involving a theory regarding Musk’s knowledge of the 2024 election results.
Musk has criticized the film on his social media platform, X, calling it a “propaganda attack” and describing Gibney as lacking integrity. The documentary explores various aspects of Musk’s life, including his personal relationships, his children, and his influence on technology and politics. Jigsaw Productions has defended the film, citing First Amendment protections for the scrutiny of public figures.
