Elon Musk warns Sweden of demographic decline and rejects far‑right label in Economist interview

Elon Musk posted a hard‑line critique of Sweden, claiming the country has shifted from one of the world’s safest nations to one plagued by crime and failed integration. He warned that “the Swedish people are dying out” and cited Statistics Sweden data showing that 28 % of the population had a foreign background in 2025, with all population growth coming from migrants. Musk framed large‑scale migration as an existential threat to Europe’s identity.

In an interview with The Economist, Musk was asked whether he posed a danger to society. He hinted at a possible merger between Tesla and SpaceX, noted Tesla’s recent earnings fell short of expectations, and reiterated his view that advanced AI could soon render both money and personal power irrelevant. He also emphasized his belief that his companies are driving a transformative technological race.

During the same interview, Musk rejected accusations that his political stance aligns with “far‑right extremism.” He said he supports “normal people” and defended policies such as secure borders, safe cities and prudent public spending, describing the far‑right label as “false and misleading.”
