Elon Musk's companies face legal and transparency scrutiny in Mexico and Argentina

Elon Musk is facing legal and political scrutiny in two different countries regarding business dealings involving his companies.

In Mexico, a legal complaint has been filed involving Tesla's land acquisition in Nuevo León. The complaint alleges that 1,194 hectares of land, purchased for approximately $98.7 million in 2023 for a planned Gigafactory, were sold by individuals who did not hold the rights to the property. The affected party, 71-year-old María de los Ángeles García de Bryant, claims the land was sold without her authorization and that the transaction involved fraudulent activity by certain officials and family members.

In Argentina, President Javier Milei has finalized a contract with Starlink to provide satellite connectivity to 6,000 rural schools. The project has an initial budget of $21.8 million, with the Argentine state contributing $11.8 million in cash. The deal has faced criticism from lawmakers and journalists due to a lack of public bidding, the speed of the approval process, and concerns that the cost is significantly higher than alternatives provided by the state-owned Argentine Satellite Solutions Company (ARSAT).
