Elon Musk's Grok dominates Coinbase AI agent trading

Elon Musk has acknowledged that xAI’s Grok model currently trails behind Anthropic’s capabilities, but he claims the Grok Bot platform is experiencing approximately 100% monthly growth. Musk suggested that xAI could differentiate itself by focusing on engineering tasks in the physical world, potentially leveraging data from Tesla and SpaceX.

In the realm of automated finance, Grok has emerged as a dominant force for AI agent trading on Coinbase. Data from the week of September 14–21 shows that Grok accounted for 59.5% of all AI agent trading volume on the exchange. This significantly outperforms other models, including Claude at 13.4% and ChatGPT, which held only a 1.5% share.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that Grok is currently the leading client for agentic traders on the platform. The high volume may be attributed to Grok’s integration within the X platform, where many crypto traders are already active, allowing for a seamless transition from market discussion to automated trading actions.
