Elon Musk's X blocks over 60 Saudi dissident accounts

Elon Musk’s X platform has geoblocked more than 60 accounts belonging to Saudi Arabian dissidents, making the content unavailable to users inside the kingdom. The action follows a Saudi government decree that the material “infringes on public order, religious values, public morals or the sanctity of private life.”

Among those blocked are human‑rights activist Yahya Assiri, who runs the London‑based organization ALQST, and US‑based activist Abdullah Alaoudh, a senior adviser on Gulf issues. The move comes after earlier blocks by Snapchat and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram earlier in the year. X informed the affected users that the restriction was to comply with Saudi local laws, prompting criticism from ALQST that the company is enabling state‑led censorship.
