Elon Musk's xAI and SpaceX sued in Mississippi over data‑center noise
Residents of Mississippi filed a class‑action lawsuit in federal court in Oxford, alleging that a gas‑fired power plant powering nearby data centres creates “omnipresent and inescapable” noise and vibrations. The suit, brought by three plaintiffs on behalf of more than 10,000 alleged class members, claims the noise has damaged health, reduced home values and caused emotional distress, and accuses xAI and SpaceX of negligence and public nuisance.
xAI invested over $20 billion to build the plant in Southaven with backing from Governor Tate Reeves; its subsidiary MZX Tech is also named. Elon Musk is not a defendant. The NAACP previously sued xAI over the same facilities for alleged environmental violations, and the U.S. Justice Department has indicated it may intervene, raising questions about the government’s role in AI infrastructure.
