Elsa Widding condemns Swedish government for turning the country into a war staging ground

In her summer broadcast, Elsa Widding, leader of the Ambition Sverige party and member of parliament, launched a fierce attack on the Swedish government's handling of national security. She accused Defence Minister Pål Jonson of wasteful spending and of making Sweden a target, and said the government is allowing U.S. forces to use Swedish bases.

Widding also singled out Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, claiming their policies – including the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) with the United States – turn Sweden into a staging area for a potential conflict with Russia. She described the foreign‑policy declaration as “propaganda” and warned that Sweden is being used in great‑power strategic games. "The biggest betrayal a government can commit is not doing everything in its power to keep the country and its people out of war," she said.
