Elshout to host lecture on rare fruit varieties and biodiversity
The Groei & Bloei De Langstraat department is organizing a lecture on Tuesday, September 15, regarding the Op Goede Grond nursery. The event will take place at D’n Elshof in Elshout starting at 20:00.
Monique Groot-Wecher will present on the preservation of old fruit varieties, biodiversity, and the nursery's permaculture-based operations. Op Goede Grond specializes in cultivating rare and nearly extinct fruit, maintaining over 10,000 trees and approximately 400 different varieties, including 200 types of apples and 75 types of pears.
The nursery functions similarly to a nature reserve, featuring a toad pond, flower meadows, and a bat cellar topped with a hill labyrinth for berries and herbs. Groei & Bloei members receive free admission, while non-members can attend for a fee of 5 euros.
