Greece food prices see significant five-year increases

Data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reveals significant increases in food prices in Greece over a five-year period from July 2021 to July 2026. The overall category of food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a cumulative increase of 34.3%.

Beef has experienced the most dramatic rise, with prices increasing by 75.1% over the five-year span. Other notable increases include chocolate and chocolate products at 60.8%, eggs at 47.9%, coffee at 43.4%, cheese at 38.9%, and olive oil at 35.4%. Within the last year alone, beef prices rose by 13.5%.

Consumer prices for beef currently range from approximately 14€ to over 22€ per kilogram, depending on the cut, quality, and point of sale.
