Elton John Marks 36 Years of Sobriety with Alcohol‑Free Champagne Toast
British singer‑songwriter Elton John, aged 79, marked the 36th anniversary of his sobriety on 29 July 2024. He shared an Instagram photo of himself at an outdoor restaurant, raising a glass of his own non‑alcoholic sparkling wine, Elton John Zero Blanc de Blancs, and added the same image to his Instagram Story set to his 1983 hit “I’m Still Standing”.
The Blanc de Blancs contains 0.0 % alcohol, is made from Italian Chardonnay grapes and was launched in January 2026 by John and his husband David Furnish. Prices reported range from about £10 in the United Kingdom to roughly US$22 in other markets. In the post John thanked fans and expressed gratitude for “every single day”. The milestone also reminded the public of his past struggle with alcohol, cocaine and other substances, his 1990 rehabilitation at Parkside Lutheran Hospital in Chicago, and his long‑term marriage to Furnish, with whom he has two sons, Zachary and Elijah.
