Elton John performs farewell concert at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City

British singer Elton John performed the first of two farewell concerts in Mexico City at the Estadio Banorte (formerly Estadio Azteca) on October 2. The event marked his return to the country after a 14-year absence, which had been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite heavy rain in the city, the veteran musician performed a setlist of over 24 songs, including classics such as ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Bennie and the Jets’, ‘Tiny Dancer’, and ‘Your Song’. Accompanied by his longtime band, including guitarist Davey Johnstone, the nearly 80-year-old artist delivered an emotional performance for thousands of fans.

While the concert was a major cultural moment, some reports noted that the stadium did not reach full capacity. The ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour serves as the final chapter of his touring career.
