Brazil celebrates Black Awareness Month with diverse cultural programs

Various Brazilian municipalities have launched initiatives for Novembro Negro (Black Awareness Month) to celebrate Afro-Brazilian history and combat structural racism. In Campo Grande, the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and Citizenship (SAS) has initiated the MS Sem Racismo program, focusing on anti-racist goals in education and public service training.

Other regional activities include a cultural program at the Zumbi dos Palmares Memorial in Volta Redonda, featuring Afro-pedagogical tours and samba performances. In Vera Cruz, the Festival Senzala, Candomblé e o Dois de Julho highlights African ancestry and Bahian independence history. Additionally, Poços de Caldas has commenced its month-long celebration with the theme “Ancestralidade que move, potência que transforma,” featuring orchestral performances, capoeira encounters, and seminars on human rights.

In Rio Grande da Serra, the local government is hosting six free events, including lectures on Black health and art exhibitions, to promote racial equality discussions.
