Elvas police arrest couple for kidnapping and extortion

Police in Elvas have arrested a man and a woman, aged 42 and 39 respectively, suspected of kidnapping, extortion, and aggravated threats. The investigation, which lasted approximately one year, revealed that the couple operated a coercive debt collection scheme involving money lending.

During searches of two residences in Elvas, authorities seized gold pieces valued at approximately €12,914, €4,235 in cash, three vehicles (including two high-capacity models), and various documents linked to the criminal activity. The suspects were presented to the Elvas Judicial District Court, where they were placed under preventive detention.
