Promotional materials have been described as devaluing the centennial tradition by labeling the event as ‘Mercadillo de la Loza’ or ‘Feria de la Loza’, often omitting the name ‘São Mateus’ entirely. Locals argue that this commercialization reduces a significant religious and cultural landmark to a mere pottery market, stripping the event of its historical and spiritual essence.
