Satellite communications companies Lynk Global and Omnispace have completed their merger to form Elveo Mobile. The new entity aims to provide direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity, allowing standard smartphones, IoT devices, and machines to connect directly to satellites without additional hardware.

Elveo Mobile, led by CEO Ramu Potarazu, holds significant spectrum rights and has established commercial agreements with over 50 mobile network operators (MNOs) across more than 60 countries. The company intends to act as a roaming partner for MNOs rather than a direct competitor, targeting sectors such as automotive, government, and humanitarian organizations.

In other regional developments, Airtel Africa and Starlink have launched a D2D service in the Democratic Republic of Congo, providing connectivity for Android LTE devices in remote areas. Meanwhile, in Brazil, telecommunications provider Vivo is nearing an agreement with Starlink to offer similar satellite-to-cell services, following regulatory authorization for testing within a sandbox environment.
