Elvia Ramírez, a 61‑year‑old animal‑rescuer from Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Mexico, was burned to death after her husband, identified as Pedro “N”, locked her inside their home and set fire to the room on 27 July. Neighbours alerted emergency services; rescuers pulled her from the flames, but she succumbed to severe burns hours later in hospital.
