Elvis Costello marks 49th anniversary of debut album
Musician Elvis Costello is reflecting on his musical origins and the release of a new 5-CD box set commemorating the 49th anniversary of his debut album, ‘My Aim Is True’.
In recent interviews, Costello discussed the creative process behind his early work, including how he composed ‘(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes’ on a train and rushed home to record it. The anniversary edition features remastered tracks, acoustic recordings from 1975 and 1976 titled ‘The Blue Print’, and previously unreleased demos and live recordings. Costello noted that he previously hesitated to release his earliest recordings because he felt they were too vulnerable, but he now views them as essential pieces of his development.
Costello also shared personal musical influences, citing Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Frank Sinatra as significant to his growth. He reflected on his early career under Stiff Records and his evolving relationship with the music he created during his formative years.
