Ely housing development approved near Princess of Wales Hospital
East Cambridgeshire District Council has approved plans for 13 new homes on a site near the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely. The development will be built on land previously used for hospital parking and a former social club that has since been demolished.
The project includes a two-storey apartment block featuring one- and two-bedroom units, alongside several two- and three-bedroom semi-detached houses. Four of the properties are designated as affordable housing. The development is intended to be completed in conjunction with 27 other recently approved homes in the area.
The proposal faced opposition from the City of Ely Council, which recommended refusal due to concerns regarding overdevelopment, the loss of green space, and the reduction of public amenities. Local residents also expressed preferences for commercial or community facilities over additional residential housing.
