Elyaz Zidane focuses on Red Star amid international speculation

Elyaz Zidane, the 20-year-old central defender for Red Star, is navigating both professional growth and scrutiny regarding his sporting nationality. Having moved from Real Betis to the Ligue 2 club last summer, the left-footed player has established himself as a key figure in the Seine-Saint-Denis formation.

While Zidane has represented France at various youth levels (U17 through U20), he remains eligible to play for Algeria, following the path of his brother, Luca. When asked about his future international allegiance, Elyaz declined to make a definitive choice, stating that at 20 years old, “everything is possible” and expressing a desire to avoid undue pressure.

He noted that his father, Zinédine Zidane—who currently serves as the France national team coach—provides tactical guidance and advice on professional athlete lifestyle. Elyaz emphasized that his current priority is his development at Red Star and contributing to the team's success on the pitch.
