Elyes Skhiri announces retirement from Tunisia national team

Elyes Skhiri, captain of the Tunisia national football team, has announced his retirement from international football. The 31-year-old midfielder shared the decision via an Instagram post, stating that representing his country has been a source of great pride and honor.

Skhiri’s international career spanned from 2016 to 2026, during which he earned 86 caps and scored four goals. His tenure included participating in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and three FIFA World Cups (2018, 2022, and 2026). Following his retirement from the national team, he intends to focus on his club career with the German side 1. FC Köln.

The Tunisian Football Federation released a statement thanking Skhiri for his 11 years of dedication and sacrifice to the national flag. His departure comes at a transitional period for the team as the new coach prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
