Emanuela Fanelli stars in new HBO Max mockumentary series ‘Peccato’

The new HBO Max mockumentary series ‘Peccato’, directed by Valerio Vestoso and starring Emanuela Fanelli, has premiered following its appearance at the Venice International Film Festival. The six-episode series is set in the year 2049 and follows a fictionalized version of Fanelli, who has retreated to Valle d’Aosta after a mysterious scandal ended her acting career.

Co-written by Fanelli, Vestoso, and Giulio Somazzi, the show uses a mockumentary format—incorporating interviews and archival-style footage—to explore the concept of pure failure and the decline of fame. Fanelli noted that the project aims to tell a human story of someone who once had everything and then lost it, moving beyond the typical celebratory rhetoric of celebrity documentaries.

Vestoso revealed that the project took four years to develop and faced initial difficulty finding distributors due to its unconventional and risky nature. The production was supported by HBO Max, Rai Cinema, and the Fondazione Film Commission Vallée d’Aoste.
