Emanuela Maccarani appointed head coach for Russian rhythmic gymnastics

Emanuela Maccarani has been appointed as the new head coach for group exercises for the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team. The Russian Gymnastics Federation announced the move as part of a systematic effort to strengthen the national technical staff and develop the sport.

Maccarani, who led the Italian national team from 1996 to 2025, brings an extensive medal record, including four Olympic medals (one silver and three bronze) and three World Championship gold medals. Her new role focuses on returning Russia to the top of the sport, with the goal of securing medals at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Maccarani’s tenure with the Italian national team ended following a scandal involving allegations of abuse reported by former gymnasts, which led to investigations starting in late 2022.
