Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia faces inquiry over alleged sale of noble titles
Marco Grimaldi, deputy group leader of Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (AVS), has filed a parliamentary inquiry addressed to the Ministries of Economy and Finance, Interior, and Culture regarding Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia.
The inquiry investigates an alleged business operation worth approximately 800,000 euros per year involving the sale of noble titles and chivalric orders that lack legal recognition under the Italian legal system. The investigation focuses on activities related to the Maurizian Order and the Order of Merit of Savoy, which are reportedly granted in exchange for entry fees and annual maintenance contributions paid to a private association based in Geneva.
The inquiry cites Law no. 178 of March 3, 1951, which prohibits the conferral and public use of chivalric honors not authorized by the State, as well as a 2020 Ministry of Defense directive classifying these specific decorations as unauthorized in Italy.
