Emanuele Grimaldi elected President of Malta International Shipowners Association
Emanuele Grimaldi has been appointed as the new President of the Malta International Shipowners Association (MISA). The leadership change was finalized during the association's annual general assembly held on October 9 in Valletta.
Grimaldi, a founding member of MISA, succeeds Marilyn Frangista, who has held the presidency since April 2022 and will now transition to the role of Vice President. Dr. Ioannis Koustas will continue his tenure as Secretary and Treasurer.
The leadership transition occurs as the Maltese shipping registry approaches a major milestone, reaching 94 million gross tonnes (GT) and nearing the 100 million GT mark, which would solidify its position as the largest registry in Europe. Grimaldi brings extensive international maritime experience to the role, having previously served as President of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), as well as leading Confitarma in Italy and European Shipowners (ECSA). His primary objectives include strengthening MISA’s influence in national and international maritime discussions, particularly regarding decarbonization, competitiveness, and maritime security.
