Emasagra wins 2026 Retina Award for water sustainability

Emasagra, the municipal water supply and sanitation company for Granada, has been awarded the 2026 Retina Award in the Sustainable Public Innovation category. The award, presented by the Prisa communication group in collaboration with Capgemini, recognizes the company’s strategic initiative, ‘Emasagra en el camino a la Descarbonización’ (Emasagra on the path to Decarbonization).

The project focuses on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and digital transformation within the water cycle management. As part of its ‘Emasagra Impulsa 2024-2030’ plan, the company aims to address climate emergencies and regional water stress through technological resilience.

Key achievements cited include maintaining carbon neutrality since 2019 by offsetting 100% of emissions, and utilizing 100% clean energy sources since 2016. In the last fiscal year, the entity avoided the emission of 5,342 tons of CO2 equivalent. Additionally, the company generated 11.32 GWh of renewable energy in 2025 through hydraulic installations.
